This 15-day Eastern Bhutan journey takes you across the country’s most serene valleys,
ancient cultural heartlands, and spiritually rich landscapes. Beginning in the peaceful
Paro Valley and continuing through the vibrant capital of Thimphu, the tour leads you
eastward through Punakha, Phobjikha, Trongsa, Bumthang, Mongar, Lhuentse, and
Trashigang. Filled with majestic fortresses, sacred temples, pristine valleys, and
traditional villages, this immersive journey offers a deep understanding of Bhutan’s living
culture and timeless spiritual heritage. A memorable highlight of the tour is the
breathtaking hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery upon your return to Paro.

Day to Day Itinerary
Driving Distance: 1.5 hrs (53 km) Altitude of Thimphu: 2,400 m Upon arrival at Paro Airport, meet your guide and drive to Thimphu. Enjoy views of rivers, forests, and traditional houses along the way. After hotel check-in, take a relaxing walk around the city.
Accommodation: Overnight in Thimphu
Altitude: 2,400 m Visit Buddha Dordenma, Memorial Chorten, Takin Preserve, Royal Textile Museum, and local craft shops. Explore Thimphu town in the evening.
Accommodation: Overnight in Thimphu
Driving Distance: 2.5 hrs (73 km) Altitude of Dochula Pass: 3,100 m Altitude of Punakha: 1,200 m Drive across Dochula Pass for stunning Himalayan views. Descend into Punakha Valley and visit Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s finest architectural masterpieces.

Driving Distance: 2.5 hrs (80 km) Altitude of Phobjikha: 2,900 m Travel to the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, winter home of the Black-necked Cranes. Visit Gangtey Monastery and take a short valley walk.

Driving Distance: 2.5 hrs (81 km) Altitude of Trongsa: 2,300 m Drive to Trongsa, the ancestral home of Bhutan’s monarchy. Visit Trongsa Dzong and the watchtower museum.

Driving Distance: 2.5 hrs (79 km) Altitude of Bumthang: 2,800 m Drive to Bumthang, the spiritual heartland of Bhutan. Visit Kurjey Lhakhang and Tamshing Lhakhang, two important religious sites connected to Guru Rinpoche.

Altitude: 2,800 m Visit Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, and explore the sacred Burning Lake (Mebar Tsho), an important pilgrimage site.

Driving Distance: 5.5 hrs (191 km) Altitude of Mongar: 1,600 m Travel eastward over mountain passes and deep valleys. Visit Mongar Dzong upon arrival.

Driving Distance: 2.5 hrs (74 km) Altitude of Lhuentse: 1,450 m Drive to Lhuentse, known for royal ancestry and exquisite weaving. Visit the 157-foot Takila Guru Statue overlooking the valley.

Driving Distance: 4.5 hrs (152 km) Altitude of Trashigang: 1,070 m Journey to Trashigang, one of eastern Bhutan’s most lively towns. Spend the evening exploring or relaxing.

Driving Distance: 1.5 hrs (53 km) each way Altitude of Tashi Yangtse: 1,788 m Visit Gomphu Kora, a sacred meditation site of Guru Rinpoche, followed by Chorten Kora, modeled after Nepal’s Boudhanath Stupa. Return to Trashigang.

Altitude of Paro: 2,300 m Take a scenic domestic flight from Yonphula to Paro. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon or stroll through Paro town.

Driving Distance: 25 mins (10 km) Hiking Time: Approx. 3.5 hrs (one way) Altitude of Tiger’s Nest: 3,120 m Begin your early morning hike to Taktsang Monastery, one of Bhutan’s most sacred sites, perched high on a cliff face.
Accommodation: Overnight in Paro
Altitude: 2,300 m Visit Paro Dzong, Dungtse Lhakhang, and Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples. Spend your evening relaxing or shopping.
