All international visitors to Bhutan (except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives) require a visa to enter the country. The visa process has been streamlined through an online system, making it easier than ever to plan your visit to the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
Visa Types
- Tourist Visa: Valid for tourism purposes including sightseeing, trekking, and cultural tours
- Business Visa: For business-related visits and meetings
- Conference/Seminar Visa: For attending official conferences and seminars
Application Process
1. Book Through a Licensed Tour Operator
All visitors must book their trip through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator like BLZ Bhutan Tours. We handle the entire visa process on your behalf.
2. Submit Required Documents
Provide a clear copy of your passport (valid for at least 6 months), passport-sized photo, and completed application form.
3. Pay the Sustainable Development Fee
The SDF of USD 100 per person per night must be paid in advance along with your tour package costs.
4. Receive Visa Clearance
Once approved, you’ll receive a visa clearance letter. The actual visa stamp is provided upon arrival at Paro Airport or land border entry points.

- Confirmed flight tickets or travel itinerary
- Hotel booking confirmation
- Proof of payment for SDF and tour package

- Processing Time: Visa clearance typically takes 5-7 working days

- Children: Reduced SDF rates apply for children under 12
